Build Overview

Build Name
Mage Blade

Intro
This is a fairly common Night Blade build that can be found in numerous places and with slightly different set ups on Tamriel Foundry.  The Magicka Night Blade is both a good DPS and source of group utility for dungeons and trials in PVE.  I am using a 4 piece aether set because I don’t have a sharpened VMA fire staff at this time.  I can pretty consistently produce greater than 20K DPS in a trial boss fight with this set up.

Build Objectives
Deal Damage

Main Focus
This build is primarily focused on end game PVE content.

Class
Night Blade

Race – Primary
High Elf (min/max)

Race – Secondary
Dunmer cause they are awesome

Why Choose This Race?
I chose Dunmer because I have nearly always played a Dunmer in TES.  Never really liked the High Elves but that would be my second choice.

Attribute Points

  • Magica 64
  • Health 0
  • Stamina 0

Attribute Points Redistribution Explained
I am a Magicka DPS therefore all attribute points into Magicka.  Outside of a tank this is pretty much the best way to go.  If you die a lot consider reallocating to health; if you are really low CP you may need some in health.  I will typically make health adjustments in the attribute points instead of Armor Enchants.

Champion Points

The Warrior
Check the picture above for my distribution.  It is important to note that I will change this for certain fights depending on the damage in the fight but this is my default set up.

The Mage
The setup I am running can be seen in the picture above.  I got my champion point distribution from a Magicka Night Blade build on Tamriel Foundry.

The Thief
Again reference the picture above.  First priority is magicka reduction then magicka regeneration.

Armor and Gear

Armor
You can see my armor choices in the build above so I wont list here.  Instead I will provide an explanation.  I am running TBS instead of Scathing Mage (shakes fist at RNG) which is best in slot.  In addition to the TBS, I am running Molag Kena’s (Naer’inth is a good substitute for AOE) as my monster set. I have chosen to run 5 light, 1 heavy, and 1 medium for the undaunted bonuses.

Jewels
Aether (alt Willpower)

  • Aether Ring with Spell damage (alt willpower/arcane)
  • Aether Ring with Spell damage (alt willpower/arcane)
  • Aether Necklace with Spell damage (alt willpower/arcane)
I believe after the last patch Aether outperforms Willpower in PVE for dungeons and trials (minor slayer makes up for what you lose from Willpower)

Weapons
Aether Fire Staff Sharpened

  • Back Bar Sword Sharpened (torugs)
  • Back Bar Sword Nirnhoned or Sharpened (torugs)
  • Occasionally I will switch up to restoration staff on the back bar if a back up healer is needed

Abilities and Passives

Passive Skills

  • All Assassination
  • All Shadow
  • All Siphoning
  • All Destruction Staff
  • All Restoration Staff
  • All Mage, Fighter, and Unduanted
  • All Racial
  • All light armor
  • All medium and heavy except the ones that require 5 pieces
  • Other various ones I am not going to list

Mundus Stones
Thief and Shadow (crit chance and crit damage)…TBS.  If I had Scathing I would be running Thief.

Active Skills and Rotation

Bar 1

Primary Bar

  • Slot 1 – Elemental Blockade (dot)
  • Slot 2 – Swallow Soul (Swallow Soul, Funnel Health, Crushing Shock, or Force Pulse depending on situation)
  • Slot 3 – Crippling Grasp (dot)
  • Slot 4 – Merciless Resolve (buff and proc Assassin’s Will)
  • Slot 5 – Inner LIght
  • Ultimate – Shooting Star (Aggressive War Horn and Veil depending on situation)
Bar 2

Execute and Buffs

  • Slot 1 – Impale
  • Slot 2 – Sap Essence (AOE) or Rearming Trap (single Target)
  • Slot 3 – Twisting Path (or Refreshing Path)
  • Slot 4 – Siphoning Attacks
  • Slot 5 – Inner LIght
  • Ultimate – Soul Harvest (shooting star, veil, or aggressive war horn)

Rotation
You can see the active skills I am using below.  In order to achieve high DPS you are going to be stacking DOTS and procing Assassin’s Will.

The rotation is approximately.  Merciless resolve, LT or MD attack, elemental blockade LT or MD attack, crippling grasp, LT or MD attack, bar swap, rearming trap, twisting path, LT or MD attack, swallow soul, LT or MD attack, ..r epeat until assassin’s will

Ultimate at beginning or when up.

At 25% impale.  On trial bosses you want to keep the dots up while using impale.

I use medium weave and throw in light attacks to proc kena.

Conclusion

Damage Tips
This build excels on things that are not moving

Survivability Tips
This build is farily survivable.  Sap essence and swallow soul or funnel health are great and so is veil.  Generally don’t stand in red circles and understand the mechanics of the fight.

Any Other Tips
Good DPS type build.  I am not very good at the rotation and can still manage above 20K dps most of the time.
