There are various siege weapons that are usable while battling in the PvP zones. Each of them have different uses and the siege weapons should be put in quick-slot to be able to utilize them. These can be purchased with gold and alliance points but some are only available with alliance points only. If you are operating a siege weapon and are killed enemies are able to set the weapon on fire and it will be destroyed very quickly.
Siege Weapons
- These are purchasable in the starting areas of Cyrodiil
- You can repair siege weapons with the Siege Repair kits. These are able to be purchased for 200 Alliance Points
- You can pack up your siege weapon to use again by pressing X
- Only a specific number of siege weapons can be deployed near the same keep. Currently this is 20
Battering Rams
- These can be deployed near keep doors and are unable to attack walls or players
- When it’s attacking a door you will want to keep a Siege Shield up on the ram. This will allow it to destroy the door before it is destroyed itself
- It will attack the nearest door once deployed
- Max of 6 player to help increase attack
- Vulnerable to flaming oil
- Only one ram may be deployed by 1 gate at a time
- Rams are mobile
- Costs 1800 AP
Catapults
- Three different types
- Meatbag – deals poison damage and reduces healing
- Oil – Deals damage to enemies and reduces movement speed
- Scattershot – Has a large AOE which can help detect hidden enemies
- Their fast reloading and special effects are well known to support allies that are attacking enemy players.
- They are not useful for attacking buildings or other siege weapons
- Stationary but can be repositioned
- Costs 1200 Alliance points for any type
Trebuchets
- Three different types
- Stone – are used to deal high amounts of damage to building and enemies
- Firepot –deals flame damage and over time damage to enemies
- Iceball – deals cold damage which reduces enemies movement speed
- Trebuchets are strong and have a long range
- Able to shoot enemies behind the walls with ease
- Stationary but can be repositioned
- Fire costs 1800 AP or 450G, Stone 1800 AP, Iceball 1800 AP
Ballista
- Three Different Types
- Ballista – This one shoots a normal bolt which will deal very high damage to buildings and enemy siege weapon. Less effective on enemy players.
- Fire – Shoots a fire bolt which deals damage and damage over time to enemies.
- Lightning – Shoots lightning bolt that slows enemies and reduces their movement speed
- Ballistae are best at destroying other enemy’s siege weapons and the normal ballista deals the highest damage
- Normal ballistae are best for destroying doors and wall due to their fast reload and are considered better than trebuchets
- The downside of the ballistae is their low radius, not being able to shoot enemies behind walls, and they are generally easiest of the siege weapons to destroy
- Can be repositioned
- Fire cost 1200 AP or 450g, Lightning 1200 AP, Normal Ballista 1800 AP
Flaming Oil
- This is the only defensive siege weapon available. It can be used as a first line defense against attacks from the battering rams.
- It has extra effectiveness against enemy vampires
- Cost is 800 AP
Repairing Damaged Walls and Doors
It is important to ensure that if you are defending an area that you are able to repair the walls or doors. This can be done by purchasing the proper repair kits for the job.
- Keep Wall Masonry Repair Kit
- These can be purchased for 90G or 300 AP
- Keep Door Woodwork Repair Kit
- These can be purchased for 90G or 00 AP
In order to to participate in the PvP within Cyrodiil it is recommended that you finish the ‘Welcome to Cyrodiil’ quest. This will provide you with some quests that will give you a understanding of how the PvP works and to help prepare you for the battles to come.
There are various PvP quests available in Cyrodiil. These can be killing enemy players of a specific class, Scout out certain area, or to attack an enemy keep and other various quests also.
Soulgems are a necessity in the battle of Cyrodiil. You will want to have some in your inventory before heading to battle because it allows you to revive your fallen allies in battle. It is important to be aware that you are not able to revive yourself with a soul gem while participating in the Alliance war so it’s great if your friends have soul gems since they will be required to revive you or for you revive them. This helps to prevent being separated from your group for an extended period where you would have to run back to them from a wayshrine which may be far from where you died.
It is recommended that you use the 3rd person view while battling in PvP as this will help you to avoid ambushes from behind and to avoid the AOE damage from siege engines much easier.
During the Cyrodiil battles it can be difficult melee targeting because your enemies will be constantly moving around attempting to avoid being hit. Many players will be using ranged weapons to avoid getting close to you. You will mostly likely need to become a master of crowd control if you decide to be melee in the battles of Cyrodiil.
It is important to know when to run to fight another day in PvP. Avoid running solo into a large group or expect to have to revive at a wayshrine.
It is highly recommended that you do not always follow the road into the heat of battle take the route less travelled and ALWAYS anticipate that there is going to be an enemy in stealth the waiting to attack you at any moment so always be prepared to get ambushed.
You can run the magelight ability to help prevent getting attacked from stealth. This will allow you to hunt those down in stealth and get them before they realize it. However be aware that when you are casting magelight it remains visible when you are sneaking yourself.
The wayshrines located in the battle of Cyrodiil are always going to be located at the gates.
You will always want to keep a Stone Trebuchet for attacking the walls and a fire ballista which you will use to attack other enemies and weapons.
You can receive Alliance points from healing damage caused to your allies.
Very helpful! I’ll be sure to keep this in mind for when I go to PvP.
There is more articles in the oven, stay tuned!
I like to bake em extra good!!!

A couple of tips i have learned while using siege weapons.
“Esc” key will quickly take you out of the siege interface but leave the siege weapon on the ground. This is useful when getting attacked by gankers or other siege weapons.
You can hold block while using siege and you will block if someone sneak attacks you.
Learn the “Purge” skill in the support skill tree under alliance war. If your hit by enemy siege and on fire it will put you out.
I saw people doing it, leaving the siege weapon quickly with out putting it away. Does the siege weapon get damage while idle standing there? And what exactly Purge does? Is it active or passive skill?
I believe siege weapons slowly take damage while they are deployed. So it’s good to make sure you have r a repair kit so you can maintain your seige weapon longer.
“Purge” is an active skill that must be on your toolbar. It removes dot effects for you and two allies i believe. It is is the Alliance War Support skill tree.
Very informative. Thanks, Thomas II
